Editor’s Letter

It is my utmost pleasure and honor to formally welcome you to Utopia—

The journey here has not been easy, but it has certainly been life-changing. As I write this letter, my head and heart are full of gratitude, pride, and even confusion; there’s a plethora of words and emotions that lie within my cerebral cavity that I cannot possibly begin to describe.

While those pictures of me may seem polished, prideful, and even effervescent, the stories behind my Barbiefied-eyes are quite dystopian. And I’m not going to bore you with a sob story about my character development, but I will encourage you to see both sides of every story: even yours. It has not been an easy journey. Not only for myself, but for my team, contributors, and even you reading this.

I emphasize dystopia because despite the Utopia you will soon enter, you must recognize the treacherous journey it took for us to be here. This issue has saved me. It has taken me out of the dystopian world that is now behind me. For that, I could not be more grateful.

Blood, sweat, and tears were shed while creating this magnificent issue: I don’t mean it metaphorically, either. The countless emails, the rescheduling, the recasting, the sleepless nights, and the fatigue, may not be ideal for a group of college students in New York City making a magazine, but that is the reality behind the fantasy you are going to explore.

So for that, I thank you for your endless support and contributions. I simply cannot fathom the number of individuals who have helped me curate such a tangible representation of my ideas. You have taken a piece of me, crafted your own, and it has culminated in a beautiful world for us to live through Primadonna’s second issue. My gratitude continues to grow, and it doesn’t seem like it’s leaving me anytime soon.

The passion put into this issue has generated enough light to power every bulb in this universe. When I created Primadonna, I intended to create a magazine for everyone. Because of you, we are far more than a magazine. We are an energy, and I am so honored to lead a collective of incredibly talented individuals.

Every single one of you has left an imprint on my mission. I seriously cannot extend my thank yous far enough, and I hope you all remember how wonderfully and beautifully celebrated you are by myself and the team.

To my team:

Y’all know how much I love you. Even though I say it often, I want to remind you that you are celebrated, appreciated, and protected so dearly.

You are the brothers and sisters I have manifested. This isn’t just a silly little magazine team, but a forever family. I didn’t realize that I would curate a family when I intended to curate a magazine, yet here we are. If Primadonna is a body, I promise to keep our heart beating through the challenges and celebrations ahead.

So from the bottom of my and Primadonna’s hearts, thank you for existing so loudly.

And to everyone who’s helped me build a foundation within myself, you are the reason I do this. Mom, Wella, Gabriel, Dad, and Uncle George: you are the reason I have always stayed true to myself and could bring my vision to life. Your sacrifices and endless encouragement (though not always nice at first) have allowed me to sustain my dreams and wishes while respecting myself and others.

Thank you then, thank you now, and thank you forever.

You have all allowed me to create a Utopia in which I can so proudly exist.

So now that you know a little more about how Primadonna created our Utopia, I challenge you to create your own.

“You clearly wanna make some shit. So why not just make it?”

- Tyler the Creator

Just do it. I promise you you’ll create your Utopia somehow, someway. And if that’s through these pages, I hope you are inspired to take up space—you’re meant for it.

Without further ado, Welcome to Utopia. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Shoot for the stars,

Miss P
